Reaper Bones Minotaur

The baby slept enough this week to give me time to finish this guy.

Not an original look for this one, but I like it. It's my usual good-enough block-color approach, though I did try a little bit of wet-blending around the nose. I'm not sure it comes across, but it looks fine. I also tried free-handing some eyebrows, as he was looking a little too much like a friendly cartoon cow. Eyebrows make everything look meaner.

Here's the comparison shot with Sven. I swear, these large Bones minis seem like they're made to look down on 1/72 scale humans. The larger scale that Reaper uses for humans just isn't as dramatic with these large monsters.

Sven gets lost on the way to Crete and asks for directions.

    1. Thanks! Yep, red seemed apt: I assume he got it off some unreasonably bold toreador.

Glad you got the package, and that it's in good shape. I saw your post about the new hobby room. Looks great!

  2. I love it (even if the axe of the reaper miniature is too big like on GW minis)

For monsters, the scale doesn't matter !

    Sven should call some friends...

    1. Thanks! I'm continually amazed how well the larger Bones figures work with 1/72 models.

The axe is certainly over-the-top. Who would have made such a thing for such a creature? It's not likely he shopped around for it.

  3. I've been looking into the Reaper Bones figs for my 20mm-ish shenanigans, but was holding off. Thanks to this size comparison I reckon I'll go for it. Cheers!

    1. No problem! You might like this post if you want to see more Bones comparison pics. Human Bones are way too large for 1/72, but halfling Bones can sometimes work as 1/72 humans, and some small or large Bones are readily adaptable.

If you look at Reaper's online catalogue, you'll see two little white triangles on the right of each photo. I believe each one represents 10mm, so the top one is 20mm from the ground. Useful info to know when making scale comparisons online!

    2. Hey, I just went to the Reaper site and checked out the triangles. That is helpful. Thanks again!

    3. The triangles are a half inch and an inch is my understanding. Which is useful as it puts them roughly around human sized for 1/72
